Imagine walking up to a professional hockey player and asking him this question: "What team do you play for?" Now suppose he answers, "I'm a professional hockey player, but I don't play for any team." You would think the guy had been slammed into the boards once too often. A similar scenario plays out in our society when it comes to church membership. There are many people who claim to be Christ-followers, but are not committed to a local church. We believe the Bible teaches that growing, maturing Christ-followers will be connected and committed to a local congregation.

At Stafford Crossing Community Church, membership is a high priority. It is easy to sit in the stadium and cheer for the ones on the field, but we encourage people to climb out of their seats, suit up, and play on the team called Stafford Crossing Community Church. Church membership is a step of commitment in which the dedicated Christian expresses through both word and deed that Jesus Christ is Lord and Master in his or her life. The key to a Christian's successful commitment lies in accountability to the local church and its leadership (Matthew 18:15-17; 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13; Hebrews 13:17). Without this accountability, a person can easily falter. But with the loving support, encouragement and challenge of the leadership and congregation, each person can not only maintain, but will grow in his or her Christian commitment.

Connecting in community with other believers is also important. There is no such thing as "Lone Ranger" Christianity. "Come as living stones, and let yourselves be used in building the spiritual temple, where you will serve as holy priests to offer spiritual and acceptable sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 2:5, TEV). We are being built together as a spiritual house for the work of ministry. "So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others " (Romans 12:5, NIV). We complement one another with our different and unique talents and abilities as we join together as a team. Each one of us has a very important function within the body and together we are able to accomplish great things for the glory of God.

The first step to membership is to join us for the Connecting Class. Details will be coming soon for the January Class.
